Community Outreach & Scholarships
RCSA + Community = Purpose
This season, RCSA hosted a free flag football clinic and collected donations of perishable items, and raffled gift baskets to families this holiday season. It's our way to give back to the community and to show holiday spirit off the field as well as on how holiday spirit runs off the field. 12 baskets were given to families at New Hope Charter School, Taylor Street Elementary, Natomas Charter, Leading Edge Academy, Norwood Middle School, and Heron School.
The Vamsi Memorial Athletic Scholarship
Vamsi, co-founder of the Sacramento Refugees always believed in the foundation of the family. When trying to find something to stay active, he didn't hesitate to choose Flag football because he enjoyed the game so much. One thing he said when trying to put together the team for the West Sacramento Adult Flag Football League, said: "I don't care about winning, I want to be around good people who enjoy the game and believe in the foundation of family first because, in the end, this is just a game." We have lived through those words when competing on and off the field and it has run true since the beginning. His death in 2019 was a shock to all of those who knew him and what he stood for. We will continue to honor his memory with this scholarship as continue to build a family that was brought together no matter where you were born and raised. Once you are a REFUGEE, you will always be family, on and off the field.
*** The Vamsi Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund is where we take donations given by the community and apply them to those who have children or family members who want to participate in any of our programs but can afford to. It is open to anyone in need and to facilitate entry for their child to enjoy our programs at a cost that helps them. If you think you qualify or want to see if you do, or know of anyone who wants to put their child in our program but don't have the necessary funds, please email us at info.rcssacramento@gmail.com for more information. You must do so at least 4 weeks prior to the start of program you are wanting to enroll as each program has a limited amount of scholarship spots.***
